As a Respiratory Therapist or Facility Specialist you understand the importance of stable respiratory rates for good patient health. Conditions such as asthma and COPD, life factors of physical activity, aging and age- related complications, as well as mental health and emotional state issues can lead to dyspnea, tachypnea and hyperventilation.
StarSong session techniques center on consistent breath training through Diaphragmatic Breathing. Utilizing singing to retrain the body and practice stable breathing patterns, we coach your patients in practical ways to integrate and habitualize these improved breathing techniques into their everyday life.
“Regular breath training can improve lung capacity and efficiency.
Breathing exercises are often recommended to manage stress
and restore the respiratory rate to normal levels.”

“Research has demonstrated group singing’s numerous psychosocial benefits and positive
impacts on physical health, especially on lung function. Participants reported decreases in
levels of shortness of breath following singing.”
“Improving quality of life in people with chronic breathlessness, with a
combination of
non-drug and drug interventions, improves clinical outcomes and reduces patient/carer
suffering and futile use of medical services.”
An interdisciplinary method promoting a fusion of breathing and wellness. Each service incorporated in our method would be cost prohibitive if used separately.
StarSong Music sessions are presented as complementary to professional healthcare, never as a replacement.
The purpose of StarSong is to teach and inspire you in deeper, more controlled breathing.
Denise Schulz, the creator of StarSong Music, spent 3 months in England participating in research of and practice in the concept of Singing for Better Breathing at the Sidney De Hann Research Centre for Arts & Health.
What she found while there was a vibrant and spreading practice of therapists, nurses and artists using many different forms of arts to help patients. This Arts & Health initiative, ongoing for over twenty years, is accessible in groups throughout England, Ireland, Canada and many countries in Europe. Below are some examples of these or
similar concepts.
